Mitchell Louis Scott was born and raised in Louisa County, Virginia surrounded by nature’s beauty and bounty, and much of this exquisite landscape would ultimately inform his desire to design. His path to fashion, however, was not a linear one. Initially pursuing a career in the sciences, Scott graduated from Virginia State University with a Bachelor's in Plant and Soil Science, and then earned his Master’s in Soil Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. Though his career went one way, his heart remained tethered to the idea of creating fashion rooted in his life experiences.
The idea for this company came to Scott in 2016 as a means for getting his ideas out. By then, he had been a government employee for over a decade, and though the stability of government was welcome, he wanted to expand his horizons and pursue a lifelong passion for style and design. Always a lover of fashion, Scott explored his creative side by working in various high-end retail clothing stores like Nordstrom and Thomas Pink. “I adored fashion, but retail wasn’t where I wanted to be,” Scott said recently. “I wanted to design, to create, and to influence consumers. I just wasn’t sure how to go about that.” Scott credits his stylish aunt Dale and grandmother, MaryAnn, for inspiring him with their impeccable sense of finesse and class. “My grandmother had an entire closet devoted to hats and dresses for church,” Scott recalled. “As a devout Christian, my grandmother believed dressing well showed respect for God, for those around you, and for yourself. I’ve never forgotten that.” Scott’s mother, Deborah Banks, has also been a source of inspiration and strength, encouraging her son to never stop dreaming, and to always pursue his goals.
Scott desires to use his creativity through design as a vehicle to inspire and give back. He is relentlessly committed to promoting and supporting causes important to the betterment of his community. The MITCHELL LOUIS brand is one of his proudest accomplishments, as he continues to challenge himself and the world in which we live.
