Born and raised in Louisa, Virginia, Montgomery loved straight lines and bright colors at a very young age. He was influenced by his mother who was a kindergarten teacher and his father’s craftsmanship. Early memories of creating in the shop beside his father along with crayons and coloring books on the kitchen table guided by his mother left an impression that reflects in his work to this day.
Moment #29, painted in 2016, is part of Monty's “Nature Series,” which is a series of works that are based on patterns, colors, and natural elements from various moments in nature. Mitchell Louis Louis and Monty Montgomery have collaborated to bring this work of art to apparel.
